Superfriends
By admin on Jan 13, 2009 in Best Diarist Blog
Nominated for the category of Best Diarist Blog is Super Friends, which is described by the nominator as “Life and times of an inmate at the United States Penitentiary Terre Haute”
The author of this site is Whitney Smith who is an inmate of the The United States Penitentiary (USP) in Terre Haute, Indiana, which is a high security facility housing male inmates. The BlogNet Awards team while reviewing this site learned a lot about being an inmate in a prison facility. Because Whitney does not have access to a computer,he mails all his posts via his father ( snail mail) who then puts them on the blog the same day it is received. There is a story behind why he named his blog Superfirends and we hope that his idea of initiation works ( we feel that tickling is indeed a fantastic rite of passage). This site will give you a realistic look at life in a penitentiary, from daily happenings, to his thoughts, feelings and his determination not to become “institutionalized”. While we want you to enjoy all the blogs that you will encounter on BlogNet Awards, we hope that when you visit Whitney’s blog, you will leave him a comment and show your support.

The writing is good, Whit. I do not lie. Don’t worry about winning a contest. You will get a book out of it. You will get a life. I love you. Your mother.

Excellent blog. Very entertaining and well written, Whit. I look forward to reading more in the future. Although I can’t say your friends are guys I’d be inviting home for dinner, the stories are great and I’ll look forward to further encounters in the future. Your wit is exceptional which make your writings a pleasure. Take good care.

Whit’s dad here. Thanks for all of your comments. Please know I’m passing each one of them on to Whit by letter, and I can tell you he is hugely appreciative of the resonance his blog is finding in the outside world.

What up Whitman!!! I have you to thank for my many Starbuck (not intentionally plugging here) coffee runs (poor me I know) in the morning. I try to keep my minimum to one blog a night but with prison slang such as “Feeding the Warden” (Freaking hilar and comparably the most funniest prison slang I’ve heard ever!)
Your like one big ball of fun all wrapped up in one URL.
You deserve this award oh and you owe me $5 in Starbucks!
Kudos to you and Whit’s Dad!!!!
On your way down the yellow brick road…enjoy it!
Super J

This blog is pretty fascinating because it’s written by an inmate. It’s the only one I’ve seen like this. I like the layout because it’s very simple and east to find older posts. You have quite the reading list!
