Nominated for the Best News Blog category is The Ribbit. The nominator felt that this is one fantastic blog about a news anchor in the Sparanburg SC area who almost single-handedly pulled an entire community into social media when she started using it to broadcast the news, help track down stories, and allow viewers to sound off.
Amy Wood’s the author. She’s a news anchor in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She started a blog spot a few years back for voicing opinions, but always wondered what would happen if the viewers could discuss the news while it was being reported. Concerned she might have a tough time getting permission, she showed up on set with a lap-top one night and invited viewers to chat with her. The Ribbit eventually sprang out of that choice. It’s a chance for the local community to keep up with, sound off on, and laugh about the news. Reviewing this blog connected the BlogNet Awards team to Facebook, MySpace, Youtube, Twitter and 12 seconds. We also found Swine Flu jokes, and a “Caption This!” contest for funny photos. The community seems to genuinely come together on this site. See if you might want your local anchors to talk to Amy.
